The Book of Biscuit Since 2012

This is the book of Biscuit and the people he belongs to Nell, Sam and Eli One of one.

Dear Biscuit, Nobody in this house has owned a matching pair of socks since 2012. We wouldn’t change a thing. With love, Nell, Sam and Eli

You came home in a shoebox. The man outside the hardware store said you’d stay small. Sam held you on his knees the whole way. You were sick on his shoes at the second traffic light. He kept the shoes.

You were Biscuit for about a week. Then you were Spoon, because of what you ate. Then Mister Sock. Then Your Majesty, whenever you took the good chair. You answer to all of them, but only if there’s food.

The green chair is yours. Nobody ever said so. The sun gets to it at ten, and so do you. There’s a dent in the cushion exactly your size. We’ve stopped plumping it.

Three things only you do. You bring one slipper, never two, to whoever comes through the door. You sit up and listen ten minutes before Sam’s car turns into the street. And you chase your tail every time someone says “dinner.”

The chicken. Eli’s ninth birthday. Eight people, one roast chicken and you, alone with it for four minutes. We ate toast. You lay under the table groaning like a very old man, and nobody has ever looked happier.

You always sit in the middle. Nell reading. Sam playing the same three songs. Eli on the rug. You check on each of us, then lie down in the exact center of the room, so nobody can leave without stepping over you.

Six fifteen. An ordinary day begins with a lead dropped on someone’s foot. Then you wait. You are very patient, and very close to their face.

And then it’s evening. Home along Fern Street with Eli, you in front, looking back at every corner to check he’s coming. Dinner. A circle. The green chair. That’s a day. We’ve had about five thousand of them.

The day we remember most You’d never seen the sea. You ran straight at it, then straight back, then straight at it again, for two hours. You slept all the way home with sand in your ears.

You taught us to slow down. A walk takes twice as long as it should, because every lamp post on Fern Street has news. Eli has learned to go at your speed without being asked. We see a lot more of the street that way.

The apple tree by the step. You’ve dug under it four times, looking for something only you know about. We’ve stopped filling in the holes. The tree seems fine.

Little signs of you. The scratches by the back door, exactly your height. Your lead on its hook, which you’d like us to notice. One slipper under the sofa, which we have decided to leave.

And at about ten to six, you’re at the window. Nobody has said anything. Ten minutes later, Sam’s car turns into the street. We still don’t know how you do it.

  8. The day you remember mostOne big picture, edge to edge.
  9. Little signs of themThe scratches on the door, the fur on everything.
  10. A card and a blank pagePrint them: a keepsake card with room for a paw print, and a page to write or draw on.
How we make it

Made with you, one book at a time.

  1. Tell us about them

After checkout, your book’s page asks for a photo and your stories. You can stop and come back whenever you like.

  2. Choose their portrait

We draw three versions with AI. Pick the one that’s most them, or ask for three more.

  3. We write it and make the pictures

Questions

Is it a printed book?

No, it’s digital: a PDF and an EPUB. Read it on a tablet, or print the PDF at home or at a local print shop. Heavy matte or cotton paper looks best with watercolor.

Will it really look like them?

That’s what we care about most. Send a clear photo of just them, showing their face and markings. You choose from three drawings, and if none is right, tell us what’s off and we’ll draw three more, up to twice. If it still isn’t them, we’ll refund you in full.

Which animals can be in the book?

Dogs and cats most of all, and rabbits, horses, birds, or anyone else who’s family. If you’re not sure, email us first.

I’m buying it for someone else. What do I do?

You fill it in yourself, so you’ll need a clear photo and a few of their stories first. When it’s done, you get a link that opens it like a present, to send them.

Do you make up any of the story?

No. We shape your words and set them on the page, but every story is one you gave us. You read the whole book before it’s finished.

Who makes the pictures?

Every page is carefully composed and edited by our design team, working with AI on the illustrations from your photo. The three first drawings come straight from the AI tool, so you’re the first to see them.

What do you do with my photos?

We use them only to make this book. We draw with Google Gemini’s paid service, so the photo passes through it. Under Google’s terms for that service, it isn’t used to train its AI. We delete the photos you sent within 7 days of delivery. The photo inside the cover stays in your finished book. Details are in our Privacy Policy.

Why does my card statement say LINK.COM?

Stripe processes our payments through its Link service, so your receipt and statement may show that name.
