OpenAI, Anthropic & Google model deprecations: the 2026 retirement schedule

A snapshot of every model from the three big API providers that has a confirmed retirement date coming up in 2026 โ€” with the exact API model ID, shutdown date, and the replacement each provider recommends.

If you've shipped an AI feature on top of gpt-4-0613, claude-3-opus-20240229, or gemini-2.0-flash-001, you've probably been burned by this before: the model you built against gets a shutdown date, the announcement goes out on a provider blog post or changelog you never read, and one day the endpoint just stops responding โ€” or worse, silently routes to a different model with a different output shape.

OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google each publish their own deprecation pages, in their own formats, on their own schedules โ€” deprecation, retirement, sunset, shutdown, whatever a given provider calls it that week, it all means the same thing to your production traffic. Nobody checks all three regularly. So here's all three, in one table, as of today.

Models retiring in 2026

Sorted by shutdown date โ€” soonest first. All dates are as published by the provider; always double-check the source link before migrating.

This table is a snapshot โ€” the radar isn't

This page is a point-in-time export. Providers add new retirement dates continuously, and this table won't update itself. The live, always-current version โ€” with filters by provider, status, and model type โ€” lives on the ChirpPal Model Deprecation Radar.

These dates change constantly. Rather than re-checking three deprecation pages by hand, watch the models you actually use and get an email before they retire.

How to migrate before these models retire

If any model in the table above is one you call in production: check the replacement column, test it against your prompts (replacements aren't always drop-in โ€” output format and tone can shift), and set a calendar reminder for the shutdown date. Or skip the manual tracking: subscribe on the radar to the exact models you use and we'll email you before they retire.
